絵や写真はその部屋の窓になると聞いたことがあります。
私の作品の最終形態は写真です。
自宅やオフィスに飾った時に
部屋の雰囲気が明るくなったり、
何かの合間に見た時に心地良さや元気をもらえる。
そんな作品作りを心掛けています。
私の作品には特別な名所や
撮影スポットは出てきません。
できるだけその人の日常に作品が
馴染んでほしいからです。
どこかで見たことがあるような川や海の情景に
石と水のアートを添えることで、
ストーリーが生まれ輝き始めます。
試しに作品からイメージで石を取り除いてみてください。
いかがでしょうか。
それはそれで綺麗だけれど、
石があることで感じられる何かがあるはずです。
石と水とその時の情景、それらがセットで
ひとつの作品になっています。
気が付かないうちに少しずつ変わっていく情景に目を向け、
時には石の均衡が成立した後、
暗くなるまで川の中で撮影を続けることもあります。
四季折々の自然が見せてくれる姿を
肯定的に感じてもらえるよう、
ひとつひとつの作品にはテーマがあります。
暗い谷を流れる川に艶やかな美しさを見て、
くすんだ落ち葉には円熟した渋味を感じ、
陽の光に枯れ木の色が乗ることで風情が出てくる。
どんな情景にもその時々の「良さ」があり、
それに合わせて石を添えること。
それが私の作家としての役目です。
大切なのは作品であり、それに感動してもらえること。
作品で扱う石をむやみに積み過ぎたり、
技術を駆使し過ぎて、
本来あった「良さ」をなくしてしまわないようにすること。
プロフェッショナルの作家として
大切にしていることのひとつです。
そして作品は画像ではなく
写真やポストカードを
お部屋に飾っていただけると幸いです。
きっと心地よい風を運んできてくれるでしょう。

I once heard that a painting or a photograph becomes a window in the room where it hangs. The final form of my work is the photograph.
I want a piece to lighten the air of a room in a home or an office, and to offer a moment of ease, or a little energy, when someone glances at it between other things. That is what I aim for.
You will not find famous views or well-known photo spots in my work. I would rather it settle into a person's ordinary days.
By adding stones and water to a river or a shoreline that looks like somewhere you have seen before, a story is born and the scene begins to shine.
Try removing the stones from the image in your mind. How does it look? It is beautiful in its own way — but there is something you can feel only because the stones are there.
The stones, the water, and the scene at that moment: together they make a single work.
I watch for the scene changing little by little, unnoticed. Sometimes, once the stones have settled, I stay in the river photographing until it grows dark.
Each piece carries its own theme, so that the face nature shows in each season can be received as something affirming.
I find a lustrous beauty in a river running through a dark valley; a mellow, matured depth in dulled fallen leaves; and when sunlight catches the color of dead wood, a quiet charm rises.
Every scene has its own goodness in that moment, and my role as an artist is to set stones that meet it.
What matters is the work itself, and that it moves someone. Not to stack more stones than necessary, not to lean too hard on technique, and above all not to lose the goodness that was already there. This is one of the things I hold to as a professional.
And the work is not the image on a screen. I would be glad if you would put a print or a postcard up in your room. It will surely bring in a pleasant breeze.
